06 Mar Adventure in Mexico
Hello adventurers! Welcome to another exciting chapter in our travels! This time Journey Group headed to one of the most colorful and culturally rich destinations in the world – Mexico. Our team of seasoned travelers, historians and adventurers embarked on an epic adventure that will forever remain in our hearts. From the ancient pyramids of Teotihuacan to the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean coast, this journey offered us unforgettable experiences and many exciting discoveries.
Getting Started: Mexico City
Our adventure began in the capital, Mexico City, one of the largest and most picturesque cities in the world. Our first day was dedicated to exploring this dynamic and diverse city. We walked around the historic center where the majestic cathedral and the famous Zocalo welcomed us with their impressive architecture and historical significance.
We did not miss visiting the Palace of Fine Arts - a place where art and culture merge into one. Here we saw magnificent murals by famous Mexican artists such as Diego Rivera. At the National Museum of Anthropology, we immersed ourselves in the history of the ancient civilizations that inhabited Mexico. Each exhibit told us the story of the Mayans, the Aztecs, and other great cultures whose legacy is still alive today in Mexican culture.
The Pyramids of Teotihuacan
On the second day, we headed to one of the most remarkable archaeological sites in the world – the pyramids of Teotihuacan. Located about 40 kilometers northeast of Mexico City, these majestic structures took us back in time, to the heart of one of the most mysterious ancient civilizations.
Climbing to the top of the Pyramid of the Sun was a real challenge. The steps were steep, but the effort paid off many times over when we reached the top. From there, an impressive panorama of the entire ancient city was revealed. The sun was shining down the valley, revealing the scale and grandeur of Teotihuacan. Our guides told us about the mysteries and legends associated with this ancient city, sharing their hypotheses about its sudden disappearance.
Cultural wealth: Oaxaca
After an exciting day in Teotihuacan, our journey continued to the culturally rich city of Oaxaca. Here we immersed ourselves in Mexican traditions and customs. The city welcomed us with a warm atmosphere and lively streets full of markets, cafes and handicraft shops.
We visited several local markets where we tried traditional dishes such as tlacoyo, enchiladas and of course the famous mole sauces. Our taste buds were overwhelmed by the richness of flavors and aromas. We didn't miss the opportunity to learn about the process of making mezcale - a traditional Mexican alcoholic drink made from agave.
Nature Adventures: Honey River and Canyons
After the cultural experiences in Oaxaca, we headed into the wilds of Mexico. We visited the Honey River (Barranca del Cobre) - a huge canyon that is even bigger than the Grand Canyon in the USA. We climbed steep trails, crossed suspension bridges and enjoyed amazing panoramic views. The waterfalls and exotic flora and fauna were a real treat for the eyes and the soul.
Basaseachic Falls offered us a breathtaking view and the opportunity to take a refreshing dip in their crystal clear waters. Our guides organized several hikes that took us to small, hidden lagoons and natural pools where we enjoyed the tranquility and beauty of nature.
Puebla: Architecture and Culinary
From Honey River we headed to Puebla, a city known for its colonial architecture and Talavera pottery. Puebla fascinates us with its beautiful churches, monasteries and colorful streets. We walked through the historic center where every building told the story of the past.
One of the most exciting experiences in Puebla was visiting one of the local culinary schools, where we learned how to prepare some of the most famous Mexican dishes. Under the guidance of a local chef, we prepared traditional tostadas, tacos and, of course, the legendary mole poblano. We ended our culinary adventure with a tasting of a variety of sweets and desserts typical of the region.
End of Adventure: The Caribbean Coast
Our adventure ended with a visit to the beautiful beaches of the Caribbean coast. We stayed in Tulum, where we combined relaxing on the snow-white beaches with exploring the ancient ruins located on the seashore. The city offered us a unique blend of ancient history and modern luxury.
We swam in the crystal clear waters of the cenotes – natural cave lakes formed as a result of the collapse of limestone caves. Cenotes Dos Ojos and Gran Cenote offered us an exceptional experience diving into their underground waters and discovering the magic of the underwater world. We ended our adventure with a dive among the coral reefs of Cozumel, where the colorful underwater world took our breath away.
Our adventure in Mexico was an unforgettable experience filled with new knowledge, exciting experiences and beautiful memories. The Journey Group team returns home enriched and inspired by what they saw and experienced. Thank you to everyone who follows our journeys and we hope our story will inspire many more people to embark on their own adventures. Until new meetings and new horizons!
